Arvind Kejriwal Backs Sonam Wangchuk, Urges Centre to Appoint Him as Education Minister

New Delhi, July 16: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday extended his support to education reformer and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently observing an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Joining the protest site, Kejriwal called on the Central Government to remove Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and appoint Sonam Wangchuk as the country's next Education Minister. He argued that Wangchuk's extensive experience in education and his long-standing commitment to educational reforms make him the most suitable candidate for the position.

Kejriwal Praises Wangchuk's Contribution

Addressing supporters at the protest, Kejriwal said that India deserves an education system focused on innovation, transparency, and equal opportunities for students. According to him, Sonam Wangchuk has dedicated his life to transforming education, particularly in remote regions such as Ladakh, and his ideas could significantly strengthen the country's education system.

Demand for Dharmendra Pradhan's Resignation

Kejriwal also reiterated demands for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the recent controversies surrounding the NEET examination. He alleged that repeated irregularities in competitive examinations have shaken the confidence of students and parents across the country and called for greater accountability in the education sector.

Hunger Strike Gains Political Support

Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike has attracted support from several political leaders, social activists, and public figures. The protest, being held at Jantar Mantar, seeks reforms in the education system and accountability over examination-related issues. Wangchuk has continued the fast despite concerns about his health, prompting appeals from supporters for the government to initiate dialogue.

Growing Pressure on the Government

With opposition leaders, civil society members, and prominent personalities backing Wangchuk's campaign, pressure is mounting on the Centre to respond to the ongoing protest. However, the Union Government has not officially reacted to Kejriwal's proposal to appoint Wangchuk as Education Minister.
