New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh lauded “Lalit Divas” which is being organized for the first time by Mithilalok Foundation on February 2, 2017 in Delhi to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of late Lalit Narayan Mishra – Mithila’s statesman and former Railway Minister.

While accepting the Foundation’s invitation to attend the Lalit Divas, Dr Singh wrote,” I am happy to know that you are commemorating the Birth Anniversary of late Shri Lalit Narayan Mishra, former Minister in the Union Government.”

In his message to Dr Birbal Jha, Chairman of Mithilalok, Dr Singh shared his close relationship with Lalit Babu when the latter was the Minister of Foreign Trade. “I worked very closely with Mishra ji when he was Minister of Foreign Trade and I was Economic Advisor in that Ministry,” Dr Singh wrote.

In his beautifully-worded message to Dr Birbal Jha, former Finance Minister and globally renowned economist said, “Shri Mishra was truly a dynamic personality deeply committed to the ideals of the Congress Party.” However, owing to his prior commitment, Dr Singh will not be able to attend the Lalit Divas. “I take this opportunity to pay my homage to late Shri Lalit Narayan Mishra and wish the “Lalit Divas” function all success …  I regret my ability to attend the meeting. ”

Appreciating Dr Singh’s candid response, Dr Jha said, “We hope, in the future programme in the memory of Lalit Babu, Dr Manmohan Singh will be available for us. We are happy to receive his message. This is a matter of proud for all Maithils.” More importantly, we are pleased to know Dr Singh’s support for the cause we are working on, Dr Jha added further.

Lalit Babu was the 14th Railway Minister of India besides holding some important positions earlier in several union ministries. During his tenure, he created a paradigm shift in the development of the country and contributed handsomely to the growth and prosperity of around four crores of Maithils in Mithilanchal in Bihar.

A special feature of Lalit Divas will be to award Lalit Samman to several deserving personalities who have done commendable work in the region’s overall growth and prosperity.

Former Hon’ble Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra will be the Guest of Honour during “Lalit Divas”.
