Mithila blazes trail of glory as the nine-day Saurath Sabha ends on a high note

New Delhi: This year, Saurath Sabha, which began on 25th June and concluded on 3rd July, was special in many ways. A large number of people thronged at the congregation on each of the day during the nine-day event.

MIthilalok Foundation, a registered trust, established a few years back to advancing the larger cause of Mithila, conceptualized the idea of making this year’s Saurath Sabha spectacular and visitor-friendly. The Foundation’s dedicated volunteers made it sure that event concluded on a high note.

IAS officer Anurag Tiwari found dead on roadside 

Lucknow: An IAS officer was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the roadside in Lucknow's Hazratganj area this morning.

Anurag Tiwari, a 2007 batch Karnataka cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was staying at a guest house in the area for the last two days. His body was found near the guest house.

Election Commission cancels Anantnag bypoll

New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) on Monday night cancelled the Loksabha bypoll for Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir. The by-election was scheduled to be held on May 25.

According to an EC official, the poll panel in an order issued around midnight rescinded a notification issued earlier on holding the bypoll on May 25.

Delhi HC notice on shortage of anti-HIV drugs in hospitals

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the central and Delhi governments on a petition alleging shortage of drugs to treat HIV/AIDS at certain hospitals in the national capital.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotra sought response from the two governments on a petition a non-governmental organisation, which claimed that due to shortage of the medicines, patients afflicted with HIV/AIDS were given dosage for only 15 days as against 30 days.

Allowing English to be accessible to the poor people is a social justice, says Dr Birbal Jha

New Delhi: “Making English as compulsory from the primary level itself will, undoubtedly, bring about a radical and revolutionary change in the state wherein English is currently taught from class 6, says Dr Birbal Jha, British Lingua MD, while lauding chief minister’s effort to push in for English education in government schools across the state. 

Uttar Pradesh is one of the cow-belt states where the socialist group, the Lohiites, spearheaded Angrezi hatao (drive away English) movement in early 70s.

18 arrested for parading couple naked in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Eighteen people were arrested on charges of beating a young couple and parading them naked in Rajasthan's Banswara district, police said on Thursday.

"We arrested nine people on Wednesday and nine more on Thursday under various sections including attempt to murder and the Rajasthan Prevention of Witch Hunting Act," a police official told IANS.
