Nanoscience needs targeted funding: CNR Rao

Bangalore: The government should ensure targeted funding to promote nanoscience and nanotechnology in solving pressing societal problems and improve the quality of life, a top scientist said on Thursday.

"Nano mission needs targeted funding to set up infrastructure and build capacity for research in nanoscience and developing nanotechnology to solve pressing problems and improve quality of life," CNR Rao, who has been named for the Bharat Ratna, said at a summit.


BJP dividing the country, says Rahul Gandhi

Jodhpur: Accusing the BJP of pursuing a 'divide and rule' policy, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the Congress believed in universal brotherhood.

"The Congress takes everyone along. We don't divide people to rule. Our government is of all religions," Gandhi told an election rally in Jodhpur, some 350 km from Jaipur.

Both in Jodhpur and earlier in Pushkar, about 150 km away from Jaipur, Gandhi underlined that while his party believed in developing in infrastructure, it was more concerned about improving the lot of the poor.

81 cases against Patanjali for violation of land laws: Uttarakhand CM

Dehradun: Eighty-one cases have been registered against yoga guru Ramdev's Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust in Uttarakhand for gross violation of land laws, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said on Wednesday.

The cases have been registered against the Trust for illegally encroaching 7.766 acres of gram sabha and government land in two villages -- Shatarshah and Aurangabad – in Haridwar district over the past two years, he said.

Quoting from a report submitted by Haridwar District Magistrate Nidhi Pandey, Bahuguna told reporters here that the cases have been registered by the DM under different sections of the Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms (ZALR) Act and the Indian Stamps Act.
