Kochi boy made Zuckerberg pay him $700

Kochi: 21-year-old Amal Augustine, a B.Tech student from Kochi, received an email from Facebook stating the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg was interested in purchasing an Uniform Resource Identifier (URL) owned by him.

The social media giant had Amal for the domain name he had registered in the name of company’s Zuckerberg's daughter, Maxime Chan Zuckerberg.

On December 1 last year, Amal had smartly booked maxchanzuckerberg.com, immediately after Zuckerberg's daughter birth.

The request to purchase the domain was sent from GoDaddy, an internet domain registrar and web hosting company. It had asked Amal if he was interested in selling the domain.

Later, Amal realised that it was originally Facebook’s owner who was willing to seal the deal.

The mail was from Sarah Kim of ICONIQ Capital, the wealth manager of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

The engineering student received $700 (approximately Rs 46,000) by selling the web address.

Amal is a third-year electronic and communication student at KMEA Engineering College, Aluva. He is also an active IT quiz participant who has won many prizes in competitions across the state.
