Chhattisgarh IAS officer caught red-handed taking bribe, transferred

Raipur: Despite all claim of corruption free governance, bureaucrats defiantly indulge in grafting.

In a fresh case, An IAS officer cum sub-divisional magistrate was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a patwari (revenue officer) posted at Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district.


He was transferred on Thursday to state secretariat in Raipur as per order of chief secretary.

"Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Bhanupratappur, Ranbir Sharma, a 2012 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, has been shifted as Under Secretary Mantralaya at Naya Raipur till further orders," an official statement said.

Acting on a complaint by patwari Sudhir Lakra, anti-corruption officials caught IAS Ranbir Sharma from his office who was being interrogated till Thursday.

Lakra told ACB officials that he felt harassed by Sharma when he was given a voice-recorder to trap Sharma.
